CELEBRATE AND REMEMBER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
Howdy Friends! As we enjoy our Memorial Day weekend with friends and family, always stay mindful of those who served and sacrificed for the many freedoms and blessings we have today. These individuals have truly made this nation the great country that it is, and we owe them an extreme debt of gratitude.
There are several events in the Waco area this weekend to honor our fallen military and express our thanks; please find one and attend. For instance, there will be a candlelight ceremony Friday evening at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial—downtown Waco on the west bank of the Brazos River; the Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall exhibit will be at the Fairgrounds in West this weekend; and, on Monday May 28th, two memorial ceremonies—one at 9 AM at Rosemont Cemetery, and one at 11 AM in Oakwood Cemetery.

I also wanted to remind you that Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-28, is a Sales Tax Holiday weekend for appliances and other consumer items with the ENERGY STAR© rating. This is an excellent chance for you to upgrade some of your equipment, saving some money in the process, and leading to further possible savings down the road on your utility bills.
Beginning on Saturday, and going through Monday, pay no state or local sales tax on the following items with an ENERGY STAR© rating:
· Air conditioners under $6,000;
· Refrigerators under $2,000;
· Clothes washers;
· Dishwashers;
· Ceiling fans;
· Dehumidifiers;
· Light bulbs; and
· other items listed on the Texas Powerful Smart website (http://www.texaspowerfulsmart.org/incentives/taxfree.php)
The sales tax holiday for energy efficient products was begun by legislation passed in the 80th Texas Legislature (2007). It is administered by the State Comptroller’s Office, which established the helpful website above for any questions you might have.
God Bless Texas!
